EXOSAT Deep Exposure of the Large Magellanic CLOUD-X-4 Region
Abstract
EXOSAT observations of the LMC X-4 region, obtained with the low energy X ray telescope and cylindrical mirror analyzer and 3000A Lexan filter are presented. They are combined into one image. LMC X-4 and all the other Einstein sources in the field (the supernova remnants N49 and N63A and the Me star LHG57) are detected in the EXOSAT image and in addition the X ray source EXO 053109-6609.2. This EXOSAT LMC (Large Magellanic Cloud) transient is only visible during 1983. The star HD 37935, the emission nebulae N55 and N55A, a stellar association near N62A, the star cluster NGC2003 are not detected due to UV radiation leaking through the filter.
